FANTA provided technical assistance to Malawi’s national nutrition stakeholders to establish the Nutrition Society of Malawi, an organization that provides professional and technical support to practicing nutritional professionals. The society aims to represent the interests of Malawian nutritionists, and advocate for influence over national and local policy development and equitable access to high-quality, evidence-based, and cost-effective nutrition interventions for the Malawian population. 

Formation of the society entailed establishing a board of directors/trustees, developing a constitution and submitting it to the registrar general and ministry of justice and constitutional affairs, mapping over 200 nutritionists who will be invited to become members, and developing a 3-year strategic plan. The Nutrition Society of Malawi received its certificate of incorporation in February 2018.
