Since the publication of the 2008 Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) Training Guide, designed for health care managers and health care providers who manage, supervise, and implement CMAM in emergency and non-emergency contexts, the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued new guidance on the management of severe acute malnutrition in infants and children and new specialized food products for the treatment of acute malnutrition. Given these developments, FANTA and partners are updating the training guide to include the guidance, evidence, best practices, and lessons learned from field implementers.
As part of this effort, FANTA hosted a stakeholder consultation meeting in March 2018 in Washington, DC, with representatives from USAID, ACF, UNICEF, World Vision, International Rescue Committee, International Medical Corps, ENN, Concern Worldwide, and others to discuss the latest CMAM evidence and build consensus on revisions to the guide. FANTA expects to release the new guide in July 2018.
