With support from FANTA, the Uganda Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries developed these guidelines to strengthen the contribution of agriculture extension and community mobilization to improving household food and nutrition security. The guidelines aim to:
- Guide policymakers on the design of nutrition-sensitive policies, strategies, and guidelines
- Provide a framework for enhancing assimilation of nutrition actions in the selection of agriculture enterprises, as well as promote nutrition-sensitive programs within the sector
- Guide agriculture extension and community development workers and agents in selecting enterprise combinations that are both highly profitable and nutrition sensitive
A new training package was developed to guide agricultural production officers and community development workers in using the Guidelines for Integrating Nutrition into Agriculture Enterprise Mixes in their work helping farmers select an enterprise mix that addresses their income needs and nutrition requirements. The package includes a Facilitator’s Guide and a PowerPoint presentation.
