Achieving improved nutrition at the country level requires addressing health system gaps. On February 8, 2018, FANTA hosted a webinar on health systems strengthening to demonstrate how nutrition can be an effective entry point for strengthening national and lower-level health systems. Attendees included nutrition and health specialists from USAID implementing partners and government ministries.

Guided by the building blocks of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Health Systems Framework, presenters discussed lessons learned from FANTA’s efforts to strengthen one or more of the health system components in Côte d’Ivoire, Malawi, and Mozambique. Through such interventions as quality improvement, coaching, and technical assistance, FANTA staff worked with governments and partners to strengthen the health workforce and improve leadership and governance, nutrition service delivery, and health management information systems.
