Optifood, a tool used to develop food-based recommendations (FBRs), usually relies on primary data, which require considerable resources to collect. FANTA studied the feasibility of using Household Consumption and Expenditure Survey (HCES) data to develop FBRs. The results show that HCES data can serve as a proxy for primary data to develop FBRs for testing in communities. The report is available in English and the summary report is available in Spanish and English.
