Recipe Book and Guide Promote Improved Diets for Women and Children in Guatemala’s Western Highlands

FANTA developed a Spanish-language recipe book and guide for government of Guatemala and USAID/Guatemala partner staff that promote nutritious, accessible, and affordable foods to improve the diets of pregnant and lactating women and young children in Guatemala’s Western Highlands. The food-based recommendations developed by FANTA and partners using the Optifood tool are the basis for the foods included in the recipes.

Uganda Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Action Planning (MSNAP) Training Module

In collaboration with Uganda’s Office of Prime Minister, FANTA developed a Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Action Planning Training Module to guide district/local level governments and key stakeholders through the process of drafting Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Action Plans (MSNAPs) in line with national nutrition planning frameworks.

Film: Ngoma ya Roho – Dance of the Soul

FANTA teamed with Media for Development International to produce Ngoma ya Roho—“Dance of the Soul,” a Swahili-language film about a young Tanzanian woman who learns life-changing lessons about the importance of good nutrition for her infant child’s well-being. Written and directed by two award-winning Swahiliwood filmmakers, the film uses edutainment techniques to address the complex issues of nutrition. A discussion guide, film poster, and postcard are available for download.

Use of Guatemalan Household Consumption and Expenditure Survey (HCES) Data to Develop Optifood Food-Based Recommendations

Optifood, a tool used to develop food-based recommendations (FBRs), usually relies on primary data, which require considerable resources to collect. FANTA studied the feasibility of using Household Consumption and Expenditure Survey (HCES) data to develop FBRs. The results show that HCES data can serve as a proxy for primary data to develop FBRs for testing in communities. The report is available in English and the summary report is available in Spanish and English.

Food for Peace and FANTA Webinar on Data Use in Decision Making

FFP and FANTA co-facilitated a webinar in November 2017 to discuss different approaches to data use. The webinar featured presentations from FFP staff and implementing partners, plus a presentation from a PEPFAR implementing partner on innovative data use strategies in other sectors.

Operationalizing Nutrition Assessment, Counseling, and Support (NACS) Guidance In Zambia: A Report on FANTA Activities from 2013 to 2017

Over the last four years, FANTA worked with the Government of the Republic of Zambia, PEPFAR Implementing Partners, and other key nutrition stakeholders to integrate NACS into the country’s health policy, planning, and service delivery.  A new report describes our contributions to Zambia’s efforts to address the nutrition problems of children, women, and people with chronic infectious diseases, including HIV.

Uganda Nutrition Advocacy Planning Workshop Guide for Districts and Lower Local Governments

FANTA developed a guide for workshops that equip Uganda’s nutrition coordination committees and local leaders to create nutrition advocacy implementation plans for local governments. The plans support district/local Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Action Plans, which prioritize nutrition efforts in those jurisdictions.
