Workshop on Conflict of Interest among SUN Stakeholders

On August 26, 2016, FANTA hosted a workshop in Nairobi on preventing and managing conflict of interest in the context of the SUN movement. The workshop provided practical hands-on support to SUN focal points regarding tools to prevent and manage conflict of interest in support of developing multisectoral nutrition plans.

Webinar on Food for Peace Data Quality Assessments

Pamela Velez-Vega (FANTA) and Dramane Mariko (FFP) presented requirements and best practices for data quality assessments that FFP development projects are required to conduct annually, per the FFP Policy and Guidance for Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting. Recording and slides, in French, are now available.

Snapshots from Mozambique: Supporting Nutrition Program Implementation in Two Key Provinces

FANTA is helping the Government of Mozambique improve its national nutrition program, starting in Nampula and Zambézia provinces, which have high rates of malnutrition. FANTA’s efforts include fostering collaboration among health officials, implementing partners, and other stakeholders in the provinces.

USAID released its 2015 Report to Congress: USAID Health-Related Research and Development Progress Report, which includes an update on nutrition research aimed at preventing malnutrition. The report features updates on several FANTA initiatives.

Micronutrient Malnutrition in Guatemala: Situational Analysis, Trends, and the Way Forward

Presentations are now available from the technical consultation held on Feb. 25–26, 2016, which reviewed the situation of micronutrient nutrition in Guatemala and discussed strategies to move forward. By the end of the meeting, representatives from the Ministry of Health committed to next steps.

Integrating Nutrition Assessment, Counseling, and Support into Health Service Delivery—Training Course for Facility-Based Providers in Uganda

Uganda’s Ministry of Health partnered with FANTA and others to develop a training course to strengthen the capacity of health service providers to integrate nutrition assessment, counseling, and support into all health service delivery points. The course includes an increased focus on preventive nutrition services at both the facility and community levels.

Webinar: Food-Based Recommendations to Improve the Quality and Diversity of the Diet of Women and Children in the Western Highlands of Guatemala and Opportunities for Their Implementation

FANTA and others conducted a study in Guatemala to identify recommendations based on locally available foods that can meet, or come as close as possible to meeting, the nutritional requirements of mothers and children. An additional study was conducted to validate the findings. The results from both studies were presented in a webinar on June 28, 2016, delivered in Spanish.
